Action for Universal Access 2010: Myths and Realities

Selection of Civil Society Action Team (CSAT) regional host for Latin America and the Caribbean
A public call for nominations was announced in December 2007 to solicit nominations for a position of host organization for the Latin America and the Caribbean Regional Coordinator of the Civil Society Action Team (CSAT). We are pleased to announce that a Selection Committee made a decision to select AID FOR AIDS (AFA), Peru, as the regional host.

AID FOR AIDS Perú is a community-based organization affiliated to AID FOR AIDS International , their work is focused on scaling up access to treatment for people living with HIV, prevention activities with youth and watchdog of the implementation and performance of the Global Fund grants in the region through Observatorio Latino program (www.observatoriolatino.org).

Selection of the Asia Pacific regional host for Civil Society Action Team (CSAT) A public call for nominations was announced on September 2007 to solicit nominations for the positions of Host Organizations for the Regional Coordinators of the Civil Society Action Team (CSAT). We are pleased to announce the selection* of the 7 Sisters, based in Thailand, as the regional host of CSAT in Asia-Pacific. The 7 Sisters is an HIV/AIDS focused broad-based alliance bringing together seven regional networks in Asia-Pacific. The Asia-Pacific Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS (APN+) will be the legal host of the 7 Sisters, responsible for fiduciary arrangements.

CSAT is a new civil society-led global initiative that aims to coordinate, broker, and advocate for technical support to civil society organizations implementing or seeking grants from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria (Global Fund).

The UNAIDS Reference Group on HIV and Human Rights issued a "Statement and Recommendations on Scaling up HIV Testing and Counseling", in response to the WHO Guidance on provider-initiated HIV testing and counseling (PITC) in health facilities.  They raise concerns and recommendations, with an emphasis on HIV testing and counseling being implemented in ways that maximize benefits to individuals and public health, and respect, protect and fulfill human rights.
